The Niuweidao (Oxtail Saber-牛尾刀) became the preferred weapon of late Qing Dynasty civilians and rebels and village martial artists. The Oxtail saber served as a weapon for unarmored combat because it differed from military “Willow Leaf” swords. The Oxtail saber stands as the traditional Kung Fu weapon because of its design for fighting without armor.
